Alleged Sexual Abuse in Nollywood: AGN should compile an Ethics Code – Dokubo

Veteran Actress, Hilda Dokubo has stated that the Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN) ought to come up with an Ethics Code in form of a book to mitigate against incessant allegations of rape/sexual abuse in Nollywood. She was speaking recently on Channels News@10 as monitored by our correspondent against the backdrop of rising cases of rape and sexual abuse in the country. The actress while feilding questions from the anchor said: ” It is high time AGN comes up with an Ethics Code that will guide practitioners- producers, movie makers and actors such that there would be no room for rape or sexual abuse in Nollywood. Streaming platforms should also be made to sign this Ethics Code to protect everyone.”
Commenting on why sexual abuse seems to be rampant ,she quipped that no sane actress will come out to accuse anyone of sexual molestation if she has no proof.”Peharps , this happens to young artistes as well as the up and coming ones.”
However, she added that those who fall into this category should be encouraged to speak out without any form of intimidation, ” Victims should not be intimidated or gagged in some way; they should speak out when the need arises. In turn, the relevant authorities should investigate these allegations,” she said
