The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 says anyone can contract coronavirus regardless of age, gender, or skin colour.
It said anyone could be infected with the virus no matter how sunny or humid the weather is.
PTF National Coordinator, Dr Sani Aliyu, made this known on Thursday during the daily briefing in Abuja.
While addressing common misconceptions relating to the virus, he said, “To the issue of common misconceptions against COVID-19, as we all know, they say, knowledge is power and by having power, you will be able to protect yourself.
“As stated by the DG NCDC, the national response is driven by science, evidence and data. I’ll like to go through common misconceptions on COVID-19 so that we can all educate ourselves and remain safe.
“The first one has to do with climate: ‘Hot climate prevents the spread of COVID-19′. No matter how sunny or humid the weather is, anybody can get COVID-19. Nigeria has recorded a total of almost 5,000 cases to date irrespective of the fact that we are actually a hot country.
“There is also no scientific evidence to show that coronavirus cannot survive hot weather. The best way to protect ourselves against COVID-19 is to maintaining physical distancing, washing our hands, use of face masks, etc.”
He advised Nigerians not to discriminate against people who recovered from the virus while also warning against the intake of bleach as a possible cure for the virus.
