Ngorgi, Nationalwire learnt was the Adminstration Officer (AO) of the battalion. Although reasons for the shooting were unclear, a military source disclosed that both officers had some disagreements in the previous day which bothered on the issue of Pass (casual leave) and unpaid allowances.

It was further gathered that the officer, who got married about eight months ago was actually having a telephone conversation with his wife when the soldier went gaga and allegedly opened fire on him shooting him several times.

A military source who gave the name of the soldier as Private Uzonna Maduabuchi said immediately the shooting ended, he was disarmed, arrested and detained in the guardroom by the Nigerian Army authorities.

While in the detention facility, he was overheard saying, “I have achieved my aim,” which points to the fact that the soldier might have planned the act before he executed it. But others said he might have carried out the killing after suffering some mental lacerations or disorders.

However, confirming the killing, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations (DAPR) Colonel Musa Sagir said the shooting occurred around 10:30am.
